German Courses
Before coming to Clemson, my German language education consisted of a handful of hours on Duolingo. Over my time at Clemson I took 4 years of German Language Instruction

GER 1010 Elementary German(Clemson)

Beginner German course that taught fundamentals of the language through conversations, composition and lecture. As my first official language course this was an introduction to grammar, basic phases, and basic cultural understandings of the german speaking countries.

GER 1020 Elementary German(Clemson)

Continuation of German 1010 with additional instruction through conversations, diction, and composition. Additional grammar and parts of speak that broadened the topics and ways to speak about things.

GER 2010 Intermediate German(Clemson)

Continued education in German language with the additions of complex readings and writings, plays and stories that gave insight into the culture and perspectives. Started to look at Germany and German speaking countries histories through different stories.

GER 2020 Intermediate German (Clemson)

Continuation of German 2010 with additional instruction through conversations, diction, and composition. Reading became more complex, added different parts of speech that expanded that reach of stories that were able to be studied.

GER 0301 Intermediate German II (Salzburg)

Lecture style course that focused on the Austrian dialect of the German language. Subject matter related to traveling, making phone calls, and speaking of personal information. The course included the maintenance of a travel diary in German, recounting our trips that were taken as a class or as an individual.

GER 3050 German Conversation and Composition (Clemson)

Training in spoken and written German emphasizing vocabulary acquisition, oral and written communication strategies, appropriate linguistic formulations for specific cultural contexts, and stylistics. This course offered the instruction that took my German writings from simple sentences and phrases to those that has a more natural and native cadence.

GER 3160 German for International Trade I (Clemson)

​Spoken and written German common to the German-speaking world of business and industry emphasizing business practices and writing and translating business letters and professional reports. Cross-cultural references provide opportunity for comparative and contrasting analysis of American and German cultural patterns in a business setting. Lessons in this course increased my understandings of firms in Germany and German speaking countries to take into a professional setting.

GER 4160 German for International Trade II (Clemson)

​Study of language and cultural environment of the German-speaking markets of the world, including linguistic and cultural idioms that support global marketing in general and the international marketing of textiles, agricultural products, and tourism in particular. This course taught the vocabulary and parts of speech needed to do businesses in German, as well as the cultural norms of business practices.

German Culture and Literature

GER 0307 Hitler und das Dritte Reich (Salzburg)
-
Examined and analyzed the phenomenon of tyranny and Adolf Hitler through primary and secondary sources and historical sites. Through the lens of the Austrian perspective on the war, this course started with the history of fascism in the country before and after the rise of the German Dictator. With classes conducted in German, the course broadened my language skills as well as my historical knowledge of the area and its context.

GER 3600 German Literature to 1832 (Clemson)

Examines selected topics in German literature from the Middle Ages to 1832. Readings included works by Lessing, Goethe, Schiller, and the Romantics. With a focus on Romantic writers we learned of the cultural, political, and economic conditions that led to a new style and subject of writing in the German world.

Study of major works in culture from 1888-1933 through literature, film, arts, and fashions. With weekly readings and viewings of materials, the discussions allowed for in depth understandings of political conditions that led to revolutionary thought in media.

ECON 2120 Principles of Macroeconomics (Clemson)

Continuation of fundamental economic principles applied to the study of aggregate economic performance. Topics included inflation, unemployment, and economic growth. With lectures and readings that went into how large economies adapted to internal and external variables the course allowed for a deeper understanding of how economies of scale operate.

MKT 3010 Principles of Marketing (Clemson)

Learned the concepts and principles of planning, pricing, and distributing goods and services. This course covered the basic understanding of marketing, like target audience, channel strategies, and more allowing for the basis of marketing knowledge that would be built on in later courses.

ECON 3140 Intermediate Microeconomics (Clemson)

Analytical study of basic concepts of value and distribution under alternative market conditions. With a focus on specific goods and services and how they compare to each other in a demand economy, this course covered the concepts and mathematics that exist behind the pricing and supply of commodities.

MKT 3020 Consumer Behavior (Clemson)

Examination of selected individual and group behavioral science concepts and their application to the understanding of consumer decision making. With a deeper focus on specific groups we learned how to target audiences based on how a brand is seeking to be marketed, how that group will make changes due to market conditions, and how to effectively market to that group.

MGT 4230 International Business Management (Clemson)

Survey of theoretical and institutional complexities of international business operations. Topics include exporting, importing, foreign investment, multinational corporations, and international payment system. This course allowed for the continued education on international markets with topics like currency exchange, business practices, managing teams across the world, and more.

MKT 4270 International Marketing (Clemson)

Study of marketing from the international point of view. Emphasis is on the necessary modification of marketing thinking and practice for foreign markets due to individual environmental differences. This course included a project that took a product into a new market, ours being a makeup brand looking to get a foothold in South East Asia. With a survey done on residents of that area in a number of different languages, we proposed a marketing strategy for the company to make an effective start in the market.

ECON 3440 Property Rights (Clemson)

Study of fundamental property rights structures and institutions in the capitalist economy and the arrangements that create incentives to produce and exchange. This included the history of property rights starting in medieval Europe moving into the modern era. The property rights covered were not only land, but goods, ideas, and art, discussing the intricacies of derivative works.

Study of the role of government and its proper functions and limitations in a market. With studies on small local governments and national treasuries, we explored how different tax policies and fiscal spending lead to various outcomes.

MKT 4290 Nonprofit Marketing (Clemson)

Examines the role and application of marketing in public and nonprofit settings. With a study of the different kinds of non-profit organizations and how they all need different marketing to reach their target audience, this course gave a deep understanding of how the sector as a whole operates and looks for potential talent, partners, and funding. Had the opportunity to work with the Clemson Area Chamber of Commerce in order to revamp their marketing including Social Media and web presence.

HIST 3240 History of the South II

Study of Southern History following the American Civil War. Using primary and secondary source, this course covered topics like Jim Crow, Civil Rights, and Black Liberation as it pertained to the American South. Taught in a historic classroom at Clemson, the course gave an in depth view of the struggles of marginalized groups in the south, including but not limited to Immigrants, Women, and the African American community.

Introduction to the practice of workplace communication. This course taught the basics of proper interactions in the workplace over email, phone, and letter. With studies in both internal and external messaging, this class offered a bridge from the academic to professional worlds.

COMM 2500 Public Speaking

Practice in the preparation, delivery, and criticism of short speeches. Develops an understanding and knowledge of the process of communication. With a number of speeches across multiple topics, this course allowed for the training and reinforcement of speaking skills and how to effectively present topics to an audience.
